 The Batcave (General Comicbook Questions)
« Thread Started on Oct 27, 2006, 6:53pm »

Hi,

I thought in open a service. I hope you don't mind or something. If yes then just delete this topic.

The idea is to solve any question, to the best of my knowledge, related to comics, especially the Superman lore. Mainly since these last seasons are offering new DC characters and raising questions about the spandex and capes world. And how knows, it can work for fics too (has worked for me :P).

Cheers and have a ncie day. :)

P.S: I choose the Batcave as title, since Bats has a file of every single fact of the DC universe.

Well, the League has three levels: Full time members, part time members and reserves. 80% of the superheroes hold any of those status. ALthough the League has suffered several incarnations, disbandments and reunions, there are certain heroes that are always there, either for the status (Superman) or the tactic advantages that their abilities offer (Flash, Green Lantern). The mos steady members and the most reconized are the following:

Superman (the global leader as well as the American branch leader)
Batman (part time member usually)
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan, Kyle Ryner, John Stewart)
Green Arrow
Flash (Barry and Bart Allen, Wally West)
Black Canary
Martian Manhunter
Hawkman
Hawkgirl
Aquaman
Zatanna
Orion
Steel
Red Tornado
Huntress (expelled)
Captain Atom
Plastic Man
Elongated Man
Firestorm
Arsenal (formerly Speedy)
The Atom
Big Barda
Mr. Miracle
Power Girl (she is related to Superman, but her origins are unclear)
Booster Gold (deceased)
Blue Bettle
Vixen
Animal Man
Adam Strange
Gypsy
The Ray
Zauriel the archangel

Those are the usual members. Of course as any organization, there are the leadres and the inner circle. The leaders are known also as the "Big Seven":

Superman
Batman
WonderWoman
Flash
Aquaman
Green Lantern
Martian Manhunter

The inner circle is composed by the big seven plus those who usually take decisions and make the clean duty when the 7 are not there or leave to do other things. To form this innerc circle they also add to the 7:

Green Arrow
Black Canary
Zatanna
Hawkman

This is just a debrief, the history of the JL is quite long as the complete list, especially since they rotate members each year. :)

Apparently yes. They have big plans for Superman this year (including a son, which btw made me win a bet) and seems that Chloe could be one of them. DC bought the rights of the character to Miles and Gough after season 3. Since then, DC has the idea of publish a comic telling the story of Chloe after she left Smallvile, probably to answer where she was all those years. Obviously her story in the comic is going to be a little bit different so solve some continuity issues.

However it will be official until the moment she appears in one of the pages of comic. I think that is not to far away. And I aslo think it will be a great addition. :)

Yes. For a part of the fandom, Diana might be a better couple for Clark (considering powers, status et. al). It was also suggested in the elseworld comic "Kingdom Come" that after Lois' tragic death and another several events, Superman found some solace in Wonder Woman and they ended expecting a baby, the most powerful being of the universe. Of course this is non-canon.

In regular canon, although at times it is hinted certain attraction between them (mainly from Diana to Clark, since Clark is to distracted with Lois to notice any other woman), they are just really good friends. Diana even is friend of Lois and they respect each other. Also in canon DC tried to pair Diana with Bruce, following the lead of the cartoon "Justice League Unlimited". It didn't work well, but it is hinted that they might try it again.

So no, besides some normal feelings of attraction, there are no romantic possibility between them, just a deep friendship (expect when they are mad at each other and start to punch each other, that happens at least once per year... LOL).

Yes they were engaged during college. It didn't work, actually seems that she wa sthe one who broke the engagement due her quest to found mor colonies of Atlantis. She was killed this year, during Infinity Crisis by the Spectre.

This one is quite long:

Darkseid: Is a new God, Lord of Apokolipsis, bent in a quest to conquer and destroy the universe with the Anti-Life equation. He can shoot deadly rays form his eyes. Not even Superman can survive that.

Bizarro: An imperfect clone of Superman. He always do the opposite of Superman and has a broken grammar speech pattern.

Metallo: A cyborg criminal with a heart of kryptonite, created to kill Superman.

Mongul: Former alien tyrant of the Warworld. He destroyed Coast City and has beaten Superman a couple of times, except when Clark is really pissed off. Then Mogul usually ends almost dead.

Mr. Mxyzptlk: Contrary to the version of SV, he is an imp from the fifth dimension with magical powers who always pull pransk in Superman and can be only defeated by tricking him to say his name backwards.

Brainiac: You already know him, there are several versions of him. The first one was an alien scientist from the planet Colu, intent on conquring Earth; the other version is the one where he is a cyborg/AI, which aim is to collect all the information of the Universe and then destroy it.

Phantom Zone criminals: Pre-Crisis, these were Kryptonian criminals imprisoned in a dimension called the "Phantom Zone", in which they only existed in a ghostlike form; this allowed them to survive the destruction of Krypton. Various such criminals would sometimes escape and attack Superman.

General Zod: You already know him form the movies I assume.

Parasite: A mutant who could absorb the powers, strength, and memories of any organic being, and wanted Superman's power for himself.

The Prankster: uses practical jokes for his crimes.

Intergang: A crime syndicate based in Metropolies armed with weapons supplied in part by Darkseid.

Doomsday: A mindless, impossibly powerful, raging monster created in Krypton milleniums ago after hideous genetic experiments and eugenesics. Is immortal, indestructible and can evolve to surpass whatever killed him the first time.

Imperiex: An all-powerful force of nature whose purpose is destroying galaxies. It took the combined efforts of all Earth's heroes and armies and even President Luthor allied with Superman to take him down, not before he obvliterated Topeka, Kansas (later it resulted that Lex allowed the attack, hence the dream sequence of his future in SV) and killed General Lane.

Toyman: An insane criminal who uses special equipment and weapons based on toys. The original one was a raptis and killer of children. The new one is a genius kid who allied himself with Superman and Batman, so he is good now.

The Cyborg Superman: A reanimated astronaut cyborg who briefly impersonated Superman after his death. He blames Superman from the death of his wife. Has the nasty habit of don't stay dead.

Gog: A human from the future who masters time travel, and hates Superman for allowing his parents to die in the blast of Topeka.

Ultraman: An evil counterpart of Superman from an alternate Earth, Ultraman possesses powers similar to Superman's.

And then you can add every single villian in Earth that wish to gain glory by killing Supes and the occasional alien invader, demon, deity and similars.

Quote:
doomsday actually kills him right?

Yes. They killed each other in a dramatic level that destroyed half of Metropolis, left half of the JL in critical condition and a whole planet crying in despair at the death of Earth's Champion (since for the rest of the Universe, Superman is Earth's Champion).

can't keep a good man down can you?

Indeed, he revived after Eradicator (a Kryptonian weapon, the equivalent in SV would be Lionel possesed), stored his body ina special chamber where the Sun energies where being collected. Also The Source (DC's version of God) allowed Johnathan Kent, who was dying at the same time for a heart attack, to save the soul of his son from the Kryptonian version of heaven and from a couple of demons. Both souls returned to their bodies. Lastly the love of Clark for Lois was so great that he started to hear her voice from beyond the garve and he ressurected, without powers, but it didn't take so long for him to get them back. As Phantom Stranger said, his ressurection was one of the kind and is not going to happen again, but there were so many powers interested in keeping him alive.

parallel the life of Jesus?

In certain way. Although it wasn't the original intention of Shuster and Siegel, they decided to start to draw those parallels. In fact Kal-El is derivated from a hebrew word that means somethin related to God, if I remember right. Also in teh DC universe the Quintenssence (the beings that guards the existence at behalf of the Source) always displayed an interest in Clark, since he has one of the purest souls and is also probably one of the most powerful beings (which is not a deity) to be born in the Universe. In fact, if Krypton didn't exploded, he was going to be the greatest Green Lantern of history. So yeah, in the DC canon, he holds a similar status, due being the the savior of Earth.

Yeah I have been reading that fic too. For starters, Ghost Rider is not from DC, is from Marvel so he shouldn't be there. Anyways, Noble Kale was the first Ghost Rider, when Mephisto, to get rid of his demonic rival Zarathos, tied them both as the Spirit of Vengueance. Johnny Blaze is a descendant of Kale and when his father died in a daredevil act, he sold his soul to Mephsito to save him. Obviously Mephisto tricked him and used the curse that went down the genealogic tree, to bond again Zarathos with Blaze (an later his half borther Danny Ketch) Basically he is a spirit that seeks to get vengueance from the criminals and justice for the innocent. Usually battles demons, spirits and some criminals. His main powers are his bike, his chain and his "Penance Stare" that can force the receiver to see all his evil deeds and relieve them as the victim.

Yes Spiderman is from Marvel, Stan Lee used to work for them until tww years ago, now he is kinda retired and no to the second question. Thankfully both companies do not like each other and their crossovers usually suck (at least IMHO), the only expection was JLA/Avengers. Besides that, is better to keep them apart, really.

Is quite a long list:

Hulk
Captain America
Daredevil
Elektra
Iron Man (movie next year)
The Fantastic Four
Punisher
Ghost Rider
The Avengers
The X-Men

And like 500 more. Since I'm not a Marvel fan I can't remember all the characters.
